The Khan Markets are three streets of shops and restaurants – which are made up of an inner street, middle street and outer street. The markets are located in the middle of New Delhi close to India Gate.
The shopping is great, local stores like Anokhi and Fabindia which sell beautiful clothing, notebooks etc. as well as International stores like Nike. I went in the middle of the day which was so hot!! – a whopping 42 degrees so I would recommend going in the morning or evening in the summer months.
One thing I have found quite strange at the malls and more formal shops here is that the local shop assistants follow you around the store, if you have bags from other stores the security people take these and give you a tag so your other purchases aren’t taken instore, and the goods that you have purchased are checked against the receipt before you leave. This all makes shopping quite a long winded process. In the larger malls and on the Delhi Metro (underground subway) security people security check each person aswell as your bags, women are processed in a different line to men. So interesting and different!
The food scene in New Delhi is great, we ate at a really hip restaurant / bar Town Hall which has Indonesian, Thai and Indian dishes aswell as delicious cocktails.
I purchased a Dupatta which is a really light printed cotton and silk scarf and a Kurtamed which is a long cotton shirt/dress which is worn over light pants. The fabric, printing and embelishments on clothing is so beautiful in India.
